Windows XP and Vista Registry Cleaners, Should I Use One?

By Hiel Strassman

Probably the most overlooked computer maintenance tool is the registry cleaner. Not only is it a somewhat unknown entity, it also gets a bad rap from some people who either don't know how to use it properly and just don't have an understanding of how a Windows registry works.

I will use this article to make a case in favor of registry cleaners because I know their use is important in fighting off registry corruption. Also, I will talk about just what registry corruption can do to an operating system and how it can hinder normal computer operations.

Windows Registries Corrupt Easily

The reason I know cleaning the registry is a needed process for keeping a computer running at full speed and error free is because I've seen it in action. Registry cleaners have helped me and my customers literally thousands of times in getting a PC out of its sick bed and back on its feet performing better than it has, sometimes for months. In other words, I know first hand what a registry cleaner will do for a computer. I have the thank you letters from satisfied customers to prove it!

How do I know registries cleaners need to be used? The answer is simple. Because registries do become corrupted and when they do, the computer's performance will inevitably suffer, maybe even to the point of becoming nonfunctional.

Things Have Changed

It wasn't long ago registry corruption went on behind the scene and was hardly noticed. Enter Windows XP and Vista. These operating systems are much larger than their predecessors and because of this, corruption disrupts their operations and in turn causes them to be more difficult to keep running at top speed.

Registry corruption will cause a computer to slow down. Sometimes this slowing down can be quite significant. Registry corruption will also cause errors and crashes. These things seem to mock the presence of spyware or viruses. Still, corruption must be dealt with when it is present.

Registry Cleaners Are a Good Thing

So what do you do when your computer is hardly functioning and you find you have corruption in the registry? Should you ignore it because some say registry cleaners are unnecessary? Not in my book! When a computer registry becomes corrupt, the only thing to do is scan it with a good registry cleaner. This, to me is common sense!

So, when your computer starts performing poorly, the first thing to do is use a spyware and/or virus scanner. These two programs do about the same thing. If you find problems there, clean them out. If that puts your computer back on its feet, great! If not, get a free registry scan with a reputable registry cleaner.

From my experience, I know once you clean a corrupt registry with a good registry cleaner, the computer starts to perform better than it has in a while. I have had many happy customers remark after their computer's registry was cleaned, that they hadn't seen their computer perform so well in a long time.
